Wilson Survives Petrov Test

Kyren Wilson survived the loss of the opening frame against Estonia’s Andres Petrov to win 3-1 and complete the quarter-final line-up at the World Games in Wroclaw.

The world number 11 looked out of sorts during the early stages of the match, but finished with breaks of 81 and 54 to seal his place in tomorrow’s last eight.

Awaiting him is former professional Michael Judge, who himself came through after a scare by two-time world women’s champion Ng On Yee. Having taken the opening two frames with a top break of 61, Judge saw his opponent respond strongly to force the only deciding frame of the first round, as she looked to become the first woman to win in the snooker discipline at the Games.

Ultimately however it was the 2004 Grand Prix semi-finalist Judge who recovered to emerge a 3-2 winner.

Earlier in the day, Iran’s Soheil Vahedi overcame former world number 14 Peter Francisco 3-1, taking the final three frames after dropping the opener.

He will now meet Switzerland’s Alexander Ursenbacher after the reigning European u-21 champion defeated former Crucible qualifier Andrew Pagett by the same scoreline.

The quarter-finals start on Friday with Ali Carter first up against Declan Brennan from 10:00am.
