WPBSA Launches the Play Snooker App

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has today announced the launch of the Play Snooker app, a new platform designed to make snooker more connected, accessible and visible for players at every level of the game.

For generations, snooker has been played in clubs, community venues and homes across the UK and around the world. While participation has always been strong, much of that activity has remained unrecognised outside the professional game. Play Snooker aims to change that.

From today, any player, whether competing in a local league, playing socially with friends, or just starting out, can become part of a wider global snooker community.

The Play Snooker app allows users to:

  • Record matches and track performance over time
  • Secure local and global rankings
  • Enter tournaments and organised competitions
  • Connect with clubs, coaches and other players
  • Build a verified playing history within the sport

For the first time, everyday players have a clear place within the wider structure of the game.

The platform has been developed in partnership with NAGRAVISION, the media, entertainment and sports division of the Kudelski Group and combines the sport’s long‑standing traditions with modern digital infrastructure. It is available to download in the Apple and Android stores.

Jason Ferguson, Chairman of the WPBSA, said: “Snooker is one of the most widely played sports in the world, but for a long time much of that participation has gone under the radar. Play Snooker helps bring that activity into view.

“It is about recognising players at every level and giving them the opportunity to be part of a shared global system, from grassroots through to the elite game.”

Morten Solbakken, EVP and COO at NAGRAVISION, said: “We are pleased to be working with the WPBSA to launch a new player and community platform that brings the global snooker community together. Play Snooker is designed to make participation more visible and better connected, by helping players, clubs, and fans, engage more easily with the sport at every level, while supporting the long-term growth of the sport. We are excited to be a part of bringing the sport closer to snooker fans around the world.”

With an estimated 100 million people playing snooker worldwide, the launch addresses a long‑standing challenge of how to connect a traditional, locally played sport within a modern global digital framework.

Play Snooker provides that framework adding structure to informal play, greater meaning to local competition and creating clearer pathways for players who want to improve, compete and become more involved in the sport.

The platform also supports clubs and local communities by helping venues attract players, organise competitions and strengthen local participation at a time when grassroots sport is under increasing pressure.

By bringing players, clubs, coaches and competitions together in one place, the WPBSA is taking an important step towards supporting the next generation of snooker.

The launch forms part of a wider ambition to develop the WPBSA as a digitally enabled global sports federation, using technology not only to showcase the professional game but also to support participation at every level.

Play Snooker is now available to be downloaded from the Apple and Android stores. Additional features and related initiatives will be introduced on a regular basis throughout 2026.
