The two-time World Championship runner-up is competing in the event for the first time and established a 2-0 lead, before sealing victory with a run of 136 to remain on course for gold in Wroclaw.
The World Games are staged by the International World Games Association every four years during the year following the Olympic Games and see Billiard Sports including snooker, carom and pool included for the fifth successive Games.
Awaiting Carter in the next round will be Northern Ireland’s Declan Brennan, a semi-finalist at the 2016 IBSF Championship who defeated Belgium’s Wendy Jans 3-1 today.
Jans, who became the first woman to compete in snooker at the World Games, did however impress during the match with an opening frame run of 88 the highlight.
Defending gold medallist Aditya Mehta however was an early casualty, falling 3-1 to home favourite Kacper Filipiak in the third match of the day. Filipiak, who is a former main tour professional and has enjoyed victories against John Higgins, Stephen Maguire and Marco Fu at the 2011 World Cup, won the first two frames before thwarting an attempted comeback from Mehta to reach the last eight.
The Polish player will next meet 2016 IBSF U-21 champion Xu Si in the quarter-finals, after the 19-year-old recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory against Pakistan’s Mohammad Bilal.
The action continues on Thursday with the remaining four last 16 ties, featuring former Shanghai Masters champion Kyren Wilson and reigning world women’s champion Ng On Yee.
