Figueiredo Wins Seniors Qualifier in Houston

  • 29th January 2019

Reigning WSF Seniors Championship winner Igor Figueiredo successfully qualified for the final stages of this year’s World Seniors Championship following a 3-0 victory against Daren Taylor last weekend in Houston.

The Brazilian, who has to date spent six seasons on the main tour and twice reached the last 16 of a professional ranking event, was in dominant form throughout the event and would ultimately drop just one frame on his way to victory. The highlight was to come during his last 16 match against Ernst Bezemer when Figueiredo compiled a magnificent total clearance of 146, a break believed to be the highest-ever in competition in the United States of America.

He will now join a field at the final stages of this year’s World Seniors Championship that will include icons of the game such as seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White, as well as further international qualifiers.

Last week’s qualifying event was held at Q Ball Snooker & Pool in Texas and attracted players from the USA, Brazil, Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

The event was supported by the Pan American Snooker and Billiards Association, a regional federation which brings together key stakeholders including the USA, Canada, Brazil and more. The body is creating a new platform to develop new opportunities through the WSF’s mission to create a seamless structure for snooker’s global development from amateur to professional.
