World number 14 Liang Wenbo has today made the first maximum 147 break of the season during his second round match against Tom Ford at the Dafabet English Open in Barnsley.

The defending champion compiled the break during the sixth frame against Ford to force a deciding frame and could not contain his emotion following pots on the final pink and black. It is the second time that the Chinese number two has successfully constructed a maximum break in professional competition, nine years on from his first against Martin Gould at the 2008 Bahrain Championship qualifiers.

Provided that the break is not equalled during the remainder of the tournament, Liang will pocket the rolling 147 prize, which currently stands at £40,000 following Judd Trump’s maximum at the China Open back in April, in addition to the tournament high break prize of £2,000.

The break was officiated by referee Rob Spencer, the fourth occasion that he has presided over a 147.
