China’s Lei Peifan won his first ranking event title at the 2024 Scottish Open by defeating Wu Yize 9-5 in the first ever final between two players born in the 21st century.
Having never previously gone beyond the last 16 of a ranking event, Lei won deciders against Shaun Murphy, Stuart Bingham, Tom Ford and Mark Allen en route to the final before defeating fellow countryman Wu in the title match. The victory saw him rise to 43rd in the world rankings.
In 2025, Lei reached the televised stages of the World Championship for the first time and overcame defending champion Kyren Wilson 10-9 on the opening day before losing out the eventual winner Zhao Xintong in the last 16. He returned to the Crucible Theatre in 2026, again losing out to the eventual champion as he fell to a first round defeat against Wu Yize.
Lei first turned professional at the age of just 16 via the 2019 Q School Order of Merit, before returning in 2024 by defeating Vinnie Calabrese in the final of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Championship.
