Paul Norris defeated Vinnie Calabrese 6-5 to win the 2026 Asia-Pacific Championship and turn professional for the first time aged 59.
Norris, who is originally from Sussex in England before emigrating to Australia, makes history as the oldest cueist to turn professional for the first time and will compete on the World Snooker Tour from the start of the 2026/27 season.
Having come through the group stage of the Asia-Pacific Championships with a clean sweep of wins, Norris then downed Jimmy Thomson, Kwok Wai Fung, Sean Dempsey and Lomnaw Issarangkun Na Ayuttaya to reach the title match.
There he faced former professional Calabrese against whom he came from 4-2 and 5-4 behind to earn a famous victory.
Norris has also competed in the Q Tour Asia-Pacific series where he has reached the semi-finals of events on five separate occasions.
