The 2016 Scottish County Championships will be held on Sunday 24th July at the Q-Club, Glasgow.

With the event set to be contested for a fourth consecutive year, those behind the event hope to continue the expansion of county snooker in Scotland and to encourage more amateurs and juniors to play snooker.

Led by 2015 champions West of Scotland, this year’s competition will see teams from six leagues heading to Glasgow and tournament organiser Tom Moran is delighted to see county snooker on the rise in Scotland:

“For me, it’s promoting the sport to its fullest,” said Moran. “It is about getting as many people as possible involved in snooker at grassroots level. It is crucial for the future of the sport in this country that we have kids of all backgrounds playing our sport

“The County Championships are all about enjoying the sport and getting players back into the game on a nationwide level. We hope to be able to provide pathways to NGB competitions and ultimately play our part in helping the development of elite talent.”

The Scottish Leagues competing in 2016 are:

  • West of Scotland League (chairman Billy Henderson)
  • Aberdeen League (chairman Kenny McPherson)
  • Edinburgh League (organiser John Taylor)
  • Red Triangle of Cumbernauld (Organiser Kevin Glen)
  • Dumfries League (Chairman Lindsay Currie / Paul Jamieson )
  • Borders League (Chairman David Clark)
