WPBSA Vice Chair and Head of Integrity Nigel Mawer QPM gave evidence today (Tuesday 14 July) before the House of Lords International Agreement Committee as it commences scrutiny of the Macolin Convention, otherwise known as the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, which the Government has recently laid before Parliament for ratification.

Mawer, was there as Co-Chair of the Sports Betting Integrity Forum (SBIF) and due to his wider expertise and experience in sport regulation. He has led the WPBSA’s integrity Unit since 2011 and sits as Chairman of the Darts Regulation Authority and the Pool Regulation Authority.

He is considered an expert on betting related corruption in sport and has dealt with many match fixing cases. He spoke alongside John Pierce, Director of Enforcement at the Gambling Commission and Karen Moorhouse, CEO at the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

The SBIF, working together with the Sports Betting Intelligence Unit at the Gambling Commission, has a key role as the strategic coordination body for implementing the Convention’s requirements domestically.
