Chang Makes Third 147
Chang Bingyu made the third maximum break of his career during his Shenzhen Open qualifying match against Chatchapong Nasa on Tuesday in Leicester.
His perfect break came in the fourth frame of an astonishing performance as he also scored runs of 109, 134, 83 and 135 in a 5-0 victory, winning in 57 minutes and conceding just 24 points.
China’s 23-year-old Chang fired 147s during the qualifying rounds of both the UK Championship and World Championship last season and has now made three of the last 12 official maximums. It’s the 244th 147 in snooker history, third of the season and puts him in line for the tournament £5,000 high break prize.
Chang now faces Elliot Slessor on Wednesday with the winner to go through to the final stages in Shenzhen in September.
Anthony McGill edged out Jordan Brown 5-4, while Noppon Saengkham made three centuries but was still beaten 5-4 by Lan Yuhao. Ben Woollaston suffered a 5-4 reverse against Luo Zetao, who cleared from yellow to pink in the decider. Matthew Selt top scored with 108 in a 5-1 defeat of Steven Hallworth.
Ricky Walden made his 400th career century – a break of 102 – during a 5-2 success against Cheung Ka Wai, while Liam Highfield top scored with 131 in a 5-2 defeat of Long Zehuang.
