Former world champion Cliff Thorburn and 1995 Crucible runner-up Nigel Bond are among the most recent graduates from the WPBSA World Snooker coaching programme after the pair successfully achieved their 1st4sport Level 2 Certificates in Snooker Coaching recently.

Launched in April 2017 in conjunction with 1st4sport Qualifications, the course sees delegates receive an exciting mix of both theoretical and practical training to equip them with the skills to become a professional snooker coach. The course is delivered by WPBSA Head of Coaching and Training Development Manager Chris Lovell, six-time world champion Steve Davis and leading coaches Andrew Highfield and Chris Motley.

Cliff Thorburn said: “I am absolutely delighted to achieve my WPBSA World Snooker 1st4sport Certificate in Snooker Coaching. I have been coaching for a number of years and I am pleased that this upgrade has enhanced my coaching and the results of my pupils. The course has helped me to increase my knowledge of the game and it was worth it. To say that I am a much better coach is definitely an understatement and my thanks go to Chris Lovell and Andrew Highfield for their support during the process.”
